Split Rail Country

Cheeseville was a small industrial and farming community located in Grey County in the former township of Artemesia. At its height it boasted a cheese factory, saw and grist mills and a brick factory.

Services in Cheeseville were quite limited. The small hamlet was located right next to the village of Markdale, which offered all the basic services one could need. There were no churches or a post office. A school, built in the late 19th century, was the only institution available in the community.

Today Cheeseville has reverted to its roots as a faming community. A number of century homes along with the old schoolhouse still stand. Learn more
