Vanwyck's Cemetery was donated by Hiram Vanwyck from the Shiloh Methodist Church (later Silcote United).
The cemetery was badly neglected for many years. It was finally cleaned up in the 1930s by volunteers from the Women's Institute.

The Balaclava soccer team around 1938 with their championship trophy.
First formed in 1937, the team became part of the Sydenham Soccer League, which included three other communities. The following year, the team went on to win the championship.
