Col. John Arthurs, a retired British Officer, was one of Napier's early settlers and a longtime postmaster. Both Col. Arthurs and his son Alex, who served as township clerk for many years, were active in the Masonic Lodge.

The cottage built by John Arthurs' grandson ca. 1928. Unfortunately it was beyond saving and demolished sometime after 1998.
